How do Medicare Advantage Plans work?

Medicare Advantage is another way to get your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans are offered by Medicare-approved private companies that must follow rules set by Medicare. If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, you’ll still have Medicare but you’ll get most of your Part A and Part B coverage from your Medicare Advantage Plan, not Original Medicare.

• These “bundled” plans include Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) , and usually Medicare drug coverage (Part D) into one plan.
• Typically includes extra benefits such as routine dental, vision, hearing and other types of benefits.
• Offers predictable costs and a firm limit on what you pay out-of-pocket for covered medical expenses each year.
• Plans typically have a network of contracted providers.
• Some plans may give you the ability to use out-of-network providers for the same copay as providers in the plan’s network, while other plans allow out-of-network visits but at a higher cost.
• You must continue to pay your Part B premium.
• Depending on the plan, you may pay a separate monthly premium to a private insurance company.
